Local Library Extends Opening Hours After Public Demand

The central library will extend its opening hours from next month after a public consultation showed strong demand for evening and weekend access. The library will now stay open until eight in the evening on weekdays and will open on Sunday mornings for the first time. Staff said the change will help students, workers and parents who cannot visit during the traditional working day. The extended hours will also allow more reading groups, homework clubs and talks by local authors. Librarians believe that a welcoming, quiet space matters more than ever, especially for people who study at home or have limited internet access. The council has funded extra staff and security, and it hopes that the new timetable will bring in younger readers as well as long-standing members. Community leaders welcomed the move, although they asked for careful monitoring of costs. The library will review visitor numbers after six months and adjust the timetable if some sessions prove far more popular than others.
