Community Garden Project Brings Neighbours Together
A new community garden on a once-empty plot of land is bringing neighbours together and giving local people a chance to grow their own food. Volunteers cleared the site, built raised beds and planted vegetables, herbs and flowers, and the first harvest has now been shared among families in the area. Organisers said the garden is about far more than fresh produce. It offers a calm place to meet, learn new skills and spend time outdoors, and it welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds. Children from a nearby school visit each week to learn how plants grow, while older residents share gardening knowledge gained over many years. The project relies on donations, volunteer time and support from local shops, and organisers hope to add a small greenhouse and a seating area next year. Anyone interested in joining can attend the weekly open session, where no experience is needed and tools are provided.
