New Bus Routes Aim to Cut Journey Times Across Town
New bus routes will come into service next month in an effort to cut journey times, reduce congestion and make public transport a more attractive choice for daily travel. The revised network adds direct links between residential areas, the hospital, the university and the main shopping district, removing the need for many passengers to change buses in the town centre. Transport planners said the changes follow months of passenger surveys and traffic studies, and they expect the most popular routes to run more often during morning and evening peaks. The council has also promised clearer timetables, real-time arrival information and better shelters at busy stops. Some residents have welcomed the extra services, while others have asked whether quieter streets will lose their current stops. Officials said no area will be left without a service, and a review after three months will allow routes to be adjusted if demand proves different from forecasts.
