Park Run Celebrates Its Fifth Anniversary With Record Turnout

The weekly park run has celebrated its fifth anniversary with a record turnout, as hundreds of runners, walkers and volunteers gathered for the free timed event. The run, which takes place every Saturday morning, welcomes people of every pace, from competitive athletes to families with pushchairs and dogs on leads. Volunteers said the event works because it is free, friendly and non-competitive, although many regulars enjoy tracking their personal best times. Over five years, the park run has helped people recover from illness, make new friends and build exercise into their weekly routine. Organisers thanked local businesses and the council for their support, and they said new volunteers are always welcome, whether to marshal, timekeep or cheer. The anniversary run ended with cake, music and a reminder that the best part of the event is simply taking part.
